SUMMARY
Here at Conservation International (CI), we work collaboratively with communities, government, civil societies, and the private sector to support and enhance the management and protection of nature. CI has worked in Samoa for over 20 years to protect the nature we depend on.
CI Samoa is seeking a Communications Coordinator to lead communications for our national program, with a primary focus on supporting the Samoa Ocean Strategy (SOS). The Samoa Ocean Strategy (SOS) is the bedrock of Samoa's commitment to sustainably manage and protect its vast ocean and marine resources. As an embodiment of our nation's respect and dependence on the ocean, SOS is a critical step toward securing a sustainable marine future. This role will ensure consistent messaging and broad public engagement to communicate the SOS’s goals, achievements, and value while highlighting progress on its implementation through various initiatives. In addition to their SOS work, the communications Coordinator will coordinate communications across all CI Samoa projects to ensure alignment and complementary messaging.
They will lead the development of content for press releases, and manage social media, websites, factsheets, and events to amplify the sustainable management and protection of Samoa’s natural resources. The role will also contribute to regional and international communications from Conservation International as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead implementation, review, and updates of the Samoa Ocean Strategy communications plan including the
-
Samoa Ocean Strategy support campaign and continue to build and support the Samoa ocean’s champion
-
campaign.

With key support, develop strategic communications plan for CI Samoa and coordinate communications
-
activities across CI Samoa projects to support programme goals while ensuring alignment and
-
complimentary messaging.

Lead content development for communications, including press releases, blog posts and social media
-
content, newsletters, website management, factsheets, event support etc.

Perform and maintain outreach for effective collaboration with CI partners including the Government, Waitt
-
Institute, press outlets, and influencers, and build strategic partnerships to grow the communications
-
network.

Manage and maintain social channels track analytics and create reports outlining successes and failures of
-
communications campaigns and strategies (monitor results).

Maintain digital media archives including photos, videos, etc
PEOPLE AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Does not manage staff but may provide guidance for interns.

Does not have authority to allocate resources or approve budget expenditures.
QUALIFICATIONS
-
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Media studies, Marketing or related field.

3 years work experience in a relevant role.

Proficiency in English and Samoan.

Sound understanding of Samoan culture, environmental issues, and government protocols.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Samoa Ocean Strategy
The Samoa Ocean Strategy (SOS) is the national policy framework that seeks to sustainably manage Samoa’s vast ocean and marine resources for the well-being of all Samoans now and into the future. The SOS provides bold and comprehensive integrated ocean management solutions that will advance ocean stewardship and ensure the cultural and economic values that Samoans derive from their 120,000 square kilometer ocean are preserved for generations to come.
The SOS complements existing plans while strengthening ocean conservation efforts. It focuses on Marine Spatial Planning and sustainable fisheries management and further develops Samoa’s Blue Economy. The strategy also integrates the implementation and management of Sustainable Development Goals, regional policies, and international commitments that concern the marine environment.
